Movement
The challenge to players is to work on offensive skills and individual defensive skills without the ball
The Stance
Players must be ready to move at all times. Players must become comfortable in what seems an awkward unnatural position
Foot Position
Feet must be shoulder width apart and parallel. This allows the player to move in any direction. Feet can be shoulder width apart and parallel. This position is used for side–to–side movement and stopping after dribbling.
Starts
All motion change begins on the floor. Take short choppy steps, when a change in motion is required stay low. When moving laterally, place weight to the desired direction of movement. To move to the right, the 1st step is taken with the right foot etc.
Defensively use short, quick shuffle steps, whilst keeping feet shoulder width apart at all times.
Stops
Players must be able to stop quickly, in a balanced position. There are two stop techniques:
- Quick stop - Jump stop with both feet hitting the floor at the same time.
- Stride stop - Two count stop by landing on rear foot with front foot landing immediately after. Use this technique when reversing direction.
